Both teams assembled for the beginning of play at 9am. Fresh and bright in the morning and some unpleasant squally showers in the afternoon. At least this was the right way around as somehow a little rain after lunch seems much less of an inconvenience.
OWGS had many regulars in the team but it also included two debutants, Chris Andrew and Charlie Rowley who, thankfully, managed to step in at the last moment having been recruited by Christian Portz. Hopefully we will see both of them at more fixtures in the future ….
As is the case with this match it was contested in the best of spirits. Oliver Saxby, the Rye Captain, always assembles a good squad of like minded golfers. Again, as with OWGS, a good few return year after year. May is a terrific time to play over the Rye Links and it was as lovely as ever, wonderfully complemented by the hospitality and bonhomie off the course.
OWGS were formidable in the morning taking a commanding lead, only marginally eroded in the afternoon. The full result is reflected in the photograph below.
